Do Right for the Right Reasons
Thoughts and Prayers from Jerusalem
Shalom from Jerusalem!
After Rabbi Saffra finished his prayers, he said: “May it be Your will, God, that you bless the earthly court with peace as the heavenly court, and between scholars studying Your law, whether they study for its own sake or not. And may it be Your will that all those who study for improper reasons study for proper reasons.”
Brachot 16
Rabbi Saffra points out a tremendous aspect of human nature: whoever is greater than his fellow man, his evil inclination is bigger (Talmud Sukkah 52).
Even the most righteous people need God's help to survive the battle with their impulses. And the most difficult impulse to conquer, especially for successful people, is the ego.
Today, take stock of the reasons that you do something, and reconsider if you are doing it for the right reasons.
